Had dinner at The Big Pink with my beautiful wife Tracy. It was a fun time. She had the idea to go there after I offered the Big Pink or Golden Hong Kong right across the street from FIU…
So we went to The Big Pink and she had the Goat Cheese Portobello Pasta, while I had a BBQ Chicken Sandwich with their homemade potato chips. Afterward, we went walking up the beach from 2nd and Collins all the way to 12th street, where we caught the Haagen-Dasz, and took that place by storm. Tracy even stole a bite of my coffee waffle cone…
Then we took a turn down Lincoln Road and people- and dog-watched. Always a blast… Especially when you see so many people walking pugs.
But then that could generate a whole new journal article.
The name of the song that I'm listening to says it all…
It seems that some of our customers feel it is acceptable to send their abuse regarding our new Student Administration system our way. I've just empowered our representatives to disconnect callers who become abusive - after fair warning.
We'll see how it goes!
I'm all for giving people a second chance, unless the people are one of the world's “leaders” in news, and lives are on the line.
CNN reported (then fixed the report) earlier today that: Hundreds of thousands of Florida residents are moving inland as Hurricane Charley picks up strength churning toward the state's Gulf Coast. About 1.9 million people reportedly have been urged to evacuate the Florida Keys and head north to the west coast of the state.
The first problem is that the Gulf Coast, the coast ostensibly under attack by the fierce storm with 145MPH winds, IS the west coast of the state. Herding 1.9 million people to that area would be interesting given some of the imagery like this satellite image from the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration's GOES Storm Floater 2 satellite.
The second problem is… 1.9 million people? Florida Keys? Is there enough room on those islands for 1.9 million people?
A high-quality news organization edits and vets the information that it disseminates… it doesn't allow crap like that out over the wire. Unfortunately, I've seen this type of “minor issue” from CNN before…
Ugh!!! So, this lady from across the campus calls, as she has for the
past 10 days, and wants to know how many calls we have received from
customers wanting to get help with the new Student Administration system
here. It's Friday. I don't want to work… but now she's calling my boss
complaining that I've not been responsive. Now, we post this stuff to our
management on a weekly basis. Why she needs it daily is beyond me, except
to correlate numbers of callers versus users.
Sometimes it's amazing that ANYTHING gets done around here when people are
so busy staring in the rearview mirror rather than looking ahead while
they drive!
So, here we are… day 1 after my first final exam in 8 years. I'm
anxiously awaiting the results, but doubt that anything will come before
Monday. This weekend, we'll be traveling north to the town of Fellsmere
for my brother's wedding. Evan, who is 12 years my junior, has found the
right woman - AND she's willing to live with him. With the weather around
here in the state, it should be interesting.
