Yes… I know…

My friends, I know… it has been a long, long time since I have graced these pages with words…  Regretfully, I have been too busy offending hordes (okay maybe two or three) of people, and also applying to graduate school, and trying to run an effective department, and it has taken its toll on me.  I had to grab slack from somewhere, and my posting on LJ was where I found the excess time to do my other activities.  So, here goes for the megapost:

Gaylord Focker
Yes, he's a character from Meet the Parents.  He also was a character in a skit that my team put together to host in front of a meeting of about 250 people.  The skit was about a typical day in the life of our Support Center.  Mr. Focker's character in this skit (played by me) was basically an idiot customer who could not articulate any basic information to the representative.  Aside from the name, he also asked the representative, Mr. Anderson, for his number at the end of the call.  The skit was a hoot and went over pretty well with most of the people in attendance.  Then as I was cleaning up the equipment from the skit, a member of the university community approached me and complained that I had incensed the gay contingent that works in our department.  Not completely dumbfounded, I didn't quite know how to respond to her, especially since she personalized the complaint at the end, and made it a personal complaint to me from her.  I doubt I'll hear more on it…  Perhaps I'll be more cognizant of the fact that I may piss people off in the future - but I doubt I'll refrain from pushing the boundaries.

Grad School
I've made formal application to Florida International University, to attend grad school in the Department of International Relations.  Hopefully I'll be accepted, and be able to come out with a Ph. D.  :-)
The process to apply was hell.  Two apps, a system that wouldn't cooperate, papers up the wazoo, and an entrance exam (the GRE).  Oh, and the coup de grace?  Employees in the Grad Admissions department who couldn't figure out what happened to my electronic application, and kept telling me only to check the system every 24 hours, only to have my app show up 3 weeks later.  It was the system's fault though, right?

Ah well…

Life is fun.  :-)
