Okay… yes, I haven't posted in a while…

And this is going to be short.

I finally got my stuff transcribed for my international relations class (I use my computer for my notes). I was stuck in Coral Gables this morning, due to traffic. There was a “suspicious package” in front of the Einstein Brothers' Bagel Shop.

Supposedly, someone pointed out my bag and said it looked like mine.

Oh well…

My bus came, and I left. Thankfully.

Goodbye, John Paul II…

I'm saddened by the loss of the Pope.  I was driving last week when I was listening to the news on CNN that he was in septic shock.  Having been exposed to the medical world for quite some time, I knew that the end was near, and started crying.  I couldn't figure out why…  I am, as they say, a lapsed Catholic.  One who does not celebrate mass, ever.  In fact, I have become a practicing Buddhist (more or less).  Now, Buddhism and Catholicism are not incompatible… it's just that I never really agreed with some of the more vocal church teachings.  While I'm not pro-abortion, I am pro-choice, even when it comes to end-of-life matters, such as those in the Terri Schiavo case.  So… why would I be so saddened by the end of the life of someone whose teachings I didn't agree with?

Because probably more than ANY politician on earth, John Paul II stuck to his guns, and make NO mistake about it - JPII was a politician, just like Bush is a politician… you don't get that high up in the hierarchy of the Catholic Church without being able to play power politics.  The difference between the il Papa and other pols (no, not poles) is that he never wavered from his principles.  He was a decent human being, who brought happiness to millions the world over.  I wish that I could say that 1/10th of this was true with the leadership of the state and country in which I live, but I can't.

And while this wasn't what saddened me about his death, it is what truly has me bothered… about my nation, it's leadership, and much of the population who voted that leadership into office.

John Paul II was truly a great man, who in the future will likely be compared to Ghandi, and Martin Luther King, Jr.  May he get his well deserved rest in peace.

What a fun day…

We took the kids, today, to the Dade County Fair.  This used to be called the Youth Fair because of the copious number of exhibits that were put on by students in the public schools…  It looks like they've really dwindled down the number of exhibits, but have kept the number of rides.

Anyhow, I got to go on the swings with Donovan, the Crazy Mouse with Tracy, and the Himalaya with Donovan.  Logan got to go on the merry-go-round with Mommy and Grandma, and he also got to fly the elephant with mommy.  The kids also got their first experience with fair food… mmmmmmmmmmmmmm…

All in all, it was a wonderful time.  Tracy and I were quite shocked that Donovan liked the rides that he did.  But it was funny.  :-D

Fucking hypocrites…

I love when the religious right-wingers get together and talk about the concept of life, especially following the fulfillment of a woman's desire to die rather than being kept on life support.  Specifically, there are two right-wingers I have in mind.  The governor of my state of Florida, Jeb Bush, and his chimp-like brother, George DUHbyuh Bush.  I think these sites show exactly how much these two “Right to Life”ers adore life:  Iraq Body Count, and Iraq Casualties depict the number of Iraqi civilians and Coalition soldiers who have died since the commencement of the war.  This site, Florida Executions Year by Year, shows how many people have been executed in the state of Florida for crimes ranging from rape to murder.

Now… I am not a “right to lifer.”  I do not, in most cases, agree with the death penalty.  I do not believe it deters criminals from murdering, especially in cold blood… besides, it's cheaper to keep them locked up in an 8' by 8' cell for the rest of their pathetic lives.  I do believe, for the most part that abortion is unnecessary; however, I would not keep someone who desired one from having one - it eliminates one more unwanted child from the streets.  But I have a hard time understanding how these two clowns could say they would like to breed a culture of life, when every, and I do mean EVERY, action they have taken represents a view diametrically opposed to this very concept.

It boggles the mind.
