Nothing… nothing at all… Okay, so that's not true.
My boss calls me at 8:15, saying she's going to be late. She got in from Tampa at 4:00 this morning. This, to me, means they left there at 11:00 last night, as they were driving. Uh… okay… after a certain point, you just rack up and spend the night somewhere, and come in nice and refreshed in the morning. But that's just me. I think I'm just looking for something to complain about, and this really isn't a big deal at all. In fact, it clears my 9:00 spot this morning, and gives me a chance to update you all on the goings-on in my life.
At 9:30 this morning, I have a meeting entitled “New Policies Information Session” given by our Human Resources department. They could entitle the meeting “Blow Smoke Up Your Ass,” as that is what they're going to be doing… they're going to discuss the new dress code policy, and also try to describe how they're changing our right to notification for non-renewal of our annual contracts to fifteen days from ninety. I'm betting they save that “non-renewal” one for last in the meeting, as I expect it to raise the hackles of many of the staff that are not represented by AFSCME. I hope that I drink enough “Shut the Fuck Up” before I go in, because one of the big reasons I came here was that I knew I had some semblance of job protection. After all, I took about a 25% pay cut to come to this institution from my job in the corporate world. Of course, 25% is better than the 100% pay cut I would have seen if I had stayed with my former firm, in which the CEO was indicted for bank fraud to the tune of $170 million dollars. And many would argue that 15 days is more than I'd see in the corporate world, so why complain… I don't know… I just don't like people arbitrarily changing an agreement they have with me.
The weekend was awesome. Got to spend some good time with my boys on Saturday, with them playing “Hop on Pop”. This is a simple game for me, one that my doctors are going to like, as they'll get to fix the hernias… “Hop on Pop” is literally that. I lie down on the floor, and they climb all over me. Sunday, we went to the birthday party of the son of a coworker… he turned three. There was a bounce house, good food, and lots of mingling, which was surprising - usually the family hangs on one side, and the coworkers the other - but there was a lot of interconnecting. Of course, both Saturday and Sunday, PresciousPunkin' had meltdowns. I think he's at the age where he thinks he can control everything. Some of us don't ever get over that. Dick (and no, I don't mean Mr. Cheney).
Anyhow…
That's it for now. The drive in was decent. Of course, leaving at 6:30 does that. As does the stop at McDonald's for a number three and a large diet coke for $4.06. (Bacon, Egg, and Cheese biscuit, for those who may have different menus in your necks of the woods.) I hope
