Today starts a new chapter in the Life of Sean. Exercise, part V.
Four times before in my life, I have started an exercise regimen. Every single one of those times ended. I know it seems like there's a missing adjective (adverb?), but the sentence is complete on its own. Today, I started part V. Tomorrow, I will start part VI. And so on and so forth.
Why is this the case? Why not “just start and never stop?”
Because I feel that I need to constantly renew the commitment to myself if I am to improve my health to the point where I can actually say that I am healthy again. I've taken to doing this with my food choices as well. If I happen to eat a McDonalds Crispy Spicy Chicken Sandwich and a large Fries, I don't hit myself over the head for hours. I just eat three Dunkin' Donuts to make up for my error later. No, I'm not joking. The point I'm making is that overall I have dramatically improved my food choices… now it's time to work on dramatically improving my overall “intake” of exercise.
This morning it was “only” 20 minutes on the treadmill at a 2.5% incline for 20 minutes at 4MPH. Tomorrow, I'll go a bit longer. Eventually, I want to get that up to 45 minutes or longer. Could I have gone longer? Sure. Will I go longer? Definitely.
And I feel great because I've finally started Exercise, part V. I can't wait for part VI tomorrow.
