Kerry Apologizes for Iraq RemarkSenator John Kerry tried this afternoon to put what he called a ?poorly stated joke? behind him for good.
Toledo Lefty already mentioned this today, complete with a link to the Don Imus show; but I just want to add my $0.02 to the fire to get my message clear (how's that for a mixed-up metaphor?).
When I heard about the comments by Senator Kerry, I winced. I winced because he should have known better. I winced because the comments lacked the taste someone of his office (and media profile) should ascribe to. I winced because I could hear the Republican spin machine start to wind up. And then I winced when I saw that it had, in fact, wound up.
All is not lost, but this IS going to cost us Democrats because this is exactly the type of traction the Republican machine is looking for. Mr. Kerry, of all people, should know what kind of sacrifice it takes to go fight a war on foreign soil - a war that has NOTHING at all to do wtih anything your country stands for, and a war for which we were ill-prepared to fight to begin with.
War is not a joking matter. This is why this election is, and the ones two years hence are, important. Mr. Kerry's comments notwithstanding, we Americans need to rise up and vote for a change in our leadership. Our lives, and those of the men and women who were sent into harm's way, depend on changing the direction in which our nation is now headed.
