I'm tired…

I'm tired…

In previous posts, you will note that I discussed the opening of a new service offering that I proposed. This service offering entails putting one of my staff members at a desk in our libraries, in order to help people with computing problems.

I am the person at the desk… at least for the past four nights. Let's just say that I've wanted to see how it's going.

It's going okay, but I'm tired.

I miss my kids, my wife…. I miss being home at a decent time.

And to think - arriving home at 9pm or later is the time I used to get home DAILY.

How did I manage?

Oh yeah… in other news, I restarted my gym membership. Let's see if we can get that going again.

This is fun…

We opened our new walk-up service this week. Things seem to be going great, except that our labs are used seemingly by people not affiliated with our university.

A large number of our customers who use our printers ($0.08 per page, $0.65 for color) are the below-18 crowd.

I don't have a problem with this, but in a library that is used by a large number of researchers, the behavior of these individuals is a bit… much to take.

Anyhow… more details to follow!

Well, this has been - painful…

Last night, I figured I'd give my mac laptop a nice spa treatment, and reduce the hard drive to stuff that I needed. You know, get rid of some languages that I didn't need, kill a few applications. Everything went great.

Until…

Something happened that I'm still trying to figure out.

Basically, I lost the rights to my home folder. Totally. And trying to fix it ended up killing my user ID on the box.

Two hours of panic set in, when I couldn't find the system-specific restore disks that came with the MacBook Pro. But I'm back in the Zen zone, after found the box for me.

Thank you hunny. Muah.

Total COMPENSATION Statement 2006…

I received my “Total Compensation Statement - 2006″ yesterday from my Human Resources department. I must say that I work for a great employer.

As part of my “Total Compensation,” I am entitled to Annual Earnings (my base salary), On-Call pay ($0), Overtime ($0 - I'm exempt from the FLSA), Bonus ($0), Spot Awards ($250 for helping with the e-mail implementation), Allowances (Uniform, Car, Royalties, etc. - $0), Relocation Expenses ($0), Criminal Justice Incentive Pay ($0), and Recognition Awards ($0). Wow… there's a lot of $0 there.

But I must say that I am pleased with my employer's contribution to my retirement (nearly $6,000), and my tuition benefit (nearly $3,100).

In all seriousness… while many view these statements in a cynical light, I do like working here, and generally I do feel appreciated. This statement just kinda helps enumerate the benefits I receive.
