It sounds kinky, but I call pretty much any meeting that I’m involved in, a “beating.” While some meetings are necessary, the vast majority are a TWOT (total waste of time) which would be better served by memo.
Not that I have anything better to do during those times; but, come on… if the point of a meeting is to share status on projects, it would be better to set up a website about the project where the person running the project can update the website, and everyone can read the updates.
Now, meetings where we come together to make decisions, meetings where we come together to get actual work done – these meetings are what I would consider to be necessary meetings.
If it offends you that I call meetings “beatings,” I’m sorry. But not that sorry.
